Baton Roots

Community Farm and Garden network in Baton Rouge

By blending access to fresh food, skill-development, socialization, and art into one location, Baton Roots brings an opportunity for our community to learn best practices in sustainable agriculture on an urban farm.

SOW GOOD SATURDAY

Notes on BREC's Howell Park: 

  • Address: 5509 Winbourne Ave, Baton Rouge, LA 70805

  • Enter the park on Winbourne Ave. Turn right, and follow the driveway past the construction.

  • Park in the lots near the basketball court. You will see the large white storage pod, as well as Baton Roots farm and garden sites in between the parking lot and Winbourne Ave." 

Sow Good Saturday starts with a workshop on gardening/farming led by Baton Roots staff, followed by an all-levels yoga class. Afterwards, Chef Traci and the American Heart Association will lead a farm-fresh cooking demo + taste test. Yoga mats will be available on site! Participants will be able to take home produce from Baton Roots at the end of the event! 


Please remember to bring: 

  • water 

  • sturdy shoes for mud/walking around the garden

  • comfortable clothes for movement/yoga

Harmony Intergenerational Garden

Connecting all generations through growing fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers is the goal of Harmony Intergenerational Garden. This raised bed garden, led by Master Gardener volunteers, will reduce social isolation and improve connections to community, while growing a bounty of fresh and healthy food.

Hustle & Grow

Youth Farm Management Training

This youth-focused initiative starts with 10-week spring/fall training (+ 5-week summer training) in sustainable urban agriculture. By being an integral part of the distribution process from start to finish, youth participants will learn the importance of stewardship and the impact that food access and security have on the health of their community.
