Fresh Food, Community Care: Supporting Our Neighborhood Fridge
A little restock, a lot of community care! The Walls Project recently stopped by the community fridge at New Look Neighborhood Grocery Store to add fresh produce and help keep nutritious food accessible to our neighbors.
Located at the corner of North 38th Street and Cain Street in Baton Rouge, the community fridge provides a place for neighbors to share food, reduce waste, and support one another. It's built around a simple idea: take what you need, leave what you can.
A Lasting Impact from MLK Fest
The community fridge has a special connection to The Walls Project's ongoing neighborhood revitalization efforts. The fridge itself was donated by The Walls Project, and the structure that houses it was built by our team and volunteers during an MLK Fest ReActivate event.
What began as a community service project continues to serve a meaningful purpose, providing a space where neighbors can access food and share resources long after the event has ended.
Together with New Look Neighborhood Grocery Store and the LSU Food Recovery Network, we're helping support an effort that makes fresh food more accessible while encouraging neighbors to look out for one another.
Small Acts, Lasting Impact
Access to fresh, nutritious food is an important part of building healthier communities. Community fridges offer a simple way to help meet that need while also keeping good food from going to waste.
Whether it's dropping off fresh produce, sharing extra groceries, or spreading the word, every contribution helps keep the fridge stocked and available to those who need it.
At The Walls Project, we love seeing how projects rooted in community service can continue making a difference. This fridge is a reminder that even small acts of care can have an impact that lasts well beyond a single day.
