In a powerful fusion of education, creativity, and community, The Walls Project partnered with Park Elementary School in Durango to co-create a student-led mural celebrating literacy, imagination, and Panther pride. With generous support from LTAC and the City of Durango, this mural transformed the school's parking lot shed into a vibrant visual story designed and painted by the 5th-grade class.
Under the artistic direction of local muralist Laurie Callum, over 90 students helped bring the vision to life across three days in April. The final design, developed in collaboration with Principal Voss-Patterson and the “Principal Krewe” of student leaders, features panthers interacting with books, blades of grass hiding inspiring words, and a storytelling motif that reflects both creativity and collaboration.
The project was more than a painting exercise—it was a celebration of student voice, teamwork, and the belief that young people deserve beautiful, engaging spaces in which to learn and grow.
The Walls Project is proud to support youth-driven art that leaves a legacy. This mural not only brightens a wall, but also reminds students, families, and educators of the powerful impact of public art in our schools and neighborhoods.
