This semester at Scotlandville Magnet High, Culture Club has been buzzing with energy and growth! We’ve added an extra day each week to deepen our impact and give students even more space to explore who they are both personally and professionally.

On Tuesdays, students have been diving into social-emotional learning, art therapy, and soft skill development, using grounding exercises and creative prompts to reflect, connect, and recharge. These sessions have created a calm, open environment where students can reset, share, and build confidence that carries into every part of their lives.

On Wednesdays, the focus shifts to hands-on learning through our career pathway courses, including photography, culinary arts, barbering, and cosmetology. Students are beginning to master their crafts, collaborate with peers, and see their creativity come to life in real time.

October has been especially full of creativity and laughter. We kicked off the month with an improv session led by Boomerang Comedy Club, where students learned to think on their feet and embrace the power of expression. Then, we brought a splash of color to the day with a splatter art therapy activity, reminding everyone that there’s no one “right” way to express yourself. Sometimes, art is about letting go.

We wrapped up the month with a meaningful field trip to “The Art of Us Together,” led by The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge where students connected what they’ve been learning in class to art, culture, and storytelling in the community.

Each week, Culture Club continues to blend creativity, career exploration, and self-discovery, showing students that learning can be both purposeful and fun.
