Creating with Sunshine: Eco Art with Youth Peace Olympics

The Walls Project recently joined Youth Peace Olympics for a bright and creative eco art activity featuring anthotypes, an art process that uses natural pigments and sunlight to create images.

For this activity, participants used turmeric to make a vibrant yellow solution, which was applied to paper as a light-sensitive background. They then arranged leaves, flowers, shapes, and other objects on top before placing their artwork in the sun. As the turmeric reacted to the sunlight, the covered areas remained darker, revealing unique prints and patterns.

The activity gave participants a chance to explore the connection between art, science, and nature in a hands-on way. They learned how everyday materials can be transformed into art while experimenting with composition, sunlight, and natural color.

One of the most exciting parts of anthotype art is that no two pieces turn out exactly alike. Each participant created something completely original using simple materials, creativity, and a little help from the sun.

We loved spending time with Youth Peace Olympics and sharing an activity that encouraged curiosity, experimentation, and self-expression. Thank you for welcoming us and creating alongside us!
