Donor Advised Funds
The Walls Project is a nonprofit organization transforming underinvested communities across Louisiana, Texas, and Colorado through public art, urban agriculture, and creative workforce development. From large-scale murals and food forests to after-school Culture Clubs and workforce training in agroforestry and arborism, we activate people and places to create lasting change. Since 2012, we’ve completed more than 240 public art installations and leveraged over $5 million in direct investment to strengthen schools, parks, and neighborhoods. By recommending a grant from your Donor Advised Fund, you can put your wealth to work fueling murals, safe spaces for youth, sustainable food systems, and job pathways that uplift communities today and build resilience for tomorrow.
What is a Donor Advised Fund?
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is like a special account set up just for giving to charity. You can put in money, stocks, or other assets, and get an immediate tax deduction. The money in the account can grow without being taxed, and you can recommend when and where to donate it over time.
DAFs are one of the fastest-growing ways to give because they’re simple, flexible, and come with big tax advantages.
How Does a Donor-Advised Fund Work?
To start a DAF, you make a donation (such as cash, stocks, or property) to a sponsoring organization, community foundation, or financial institution. This donation is permanent, and you get a tax deduction right away. Funds in a DAF can only be used to support organizations that are tax-exempt 501(c)(3) and classified as public charities under 509(a).
The sponsoring organization manages the funds, which grow tax-free. Legally, the assets belong to the sponsor, but you can still advise on:
-
How the money is invested
-
Which charities should receive donations (as long as they’re registered 501(c)(3) public charities - like The Walls Project).
You can suggest one-time or recurring gifts. Once the sponsor approves your recommendation, the donation is made.
Why Give Through a Donor-Advised Fund?
-
Support causes you care about, now or over time
-
Involve your family in charitable giving decisions
-
Leave a lasting charitable legacy
-
Get immediate tax benefits, with the ability to distribute funds later
-
Keep all your giving organized in one place
Put Your Wealth to Work with The Walls Project
When you recommend a grant from your DAF to The Walls, you’re not just giving, you’re investing in lasting change. Your support fuels murals that revitalize neighborhoods, food forests that provide free fresh produce, after-school safe spaces that spark joy and creativity, and workforce programs that prepare the next generation for careers in agroforestry, arborism, and the arts. DAFs give you the flexibility to direct your philanthropy where it matters most, and at The Walls Project, every dollar goes toward transforming underinvested communities into places where people can thrive.

Did You Know Your DAF Can Fund Public Murals?
Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) aren’t limited to traditional charity; they can also be used to bring large-scale public murals to life. At The Walls Project, we specialize in designing and installing community-driven murals that transform schools, parks, housing developments, and neighborhoods into vibrant spaces of pride and connection. By directing your DAF toward a mural project, you can raise awareness, celebrate local identity, and leave a lasting legacy in the community you care about. Our team has completed over 240 installations across three states, and we’re ready to partner with you to put your wealth to work, one wall at a time.
