Hack-A-Thon FAQs

What are the prompts?
We have two choices of prompts. Only one needs to be solved:
-
Better communication between friends
-
Melding social media and music discovery
What is the prize?
We are currently fundraising for the cash prize. We will be able to announce it soon! The winnings will be evenly split between teammates.
What is the group size required?
Groups are encouraged to be 3-5 people to evenly spread the work. You are able to compete as a team of one, but the work will be a lot to accomplish in the time allotted.
How much time do we have to build?
The Hack-A-Thon competition is roughly 6 hours. Teams will be able to stop for breaks and lunch as needed. The judging will begin promptly at 3 PM. Teams are able to work before the competition to brainstorm and pre-build any parts of their work. We will have special challenges throughout that can only be done "on the fly" during the competition.
Will we have support?
Our Futures Fund Instructors and coding graduates will be around to help groups problem-solve at scheduled blocks. Additionally, a suggested milestone or work schedule will be given to every group to ensure they are able to properly manage their time. These are only suggestions, as each group is allowed to approach the work however they wish.
How long will our presentation have to be?
This will depend on the number of groups registered. We will announce the presentation length at the beginning of the day to accomodate any late registrations. Once the competition begins, no additional groups are able to be added.
