About the event
WHAT IS MLK FEST? What started out as a 1-day event on MLK Day Monday, January 2015 has grown into a festival of service, spanning the entire weekend of MLK Day. This event was created to revitalize and reactivate neighborhoods in Baton Rouge with the help of volunteers. This year our efforts will be focused on a section of Eden Park.
SATURDAY ACTIVITIES: Volunteers paint houses, restore the Gus Young Park mural, paint the basketball court, and plant shrubs/trees around the outside of the court; blight cleanup; multiple locations within the Eden Park area with 3798 Cain Street as the central meetup/check-in point.
WHY IS THIS EVENT SPECIAL? Our festival is about collective community impact. By coordinating the service work of over 200 organizations, we are capable of harnessing the power of 5,000 volunteers to help reactive a neighborhood.
