About the event
Join us for the unveiling of the Black History Trail System, a new public art and place based learning initiative that honors moments of collective action, civic leadership, and community resilience across Baton Rouge.
The Trail includes both a downtown and a North Baton Rouge segment and focuses on shifting how local history is told. It centers Louisiana as an early leader in ideas and actions that later influenced movements across the country. Through artist designed markers placed in public spaces, the Greenway Civil Rights Trail and the EnvisioNBR Legacy Trail connect Black history to the present day city. Residents, students, and visitors are invited to learn, reflect, and engage with this history in the places where it happened.
The event will conclude at Mary J. Lands Park with a dedication to the Trail followed by a community block party, inviting guests to gather, celebrate, and spend time together.
